The Two Aspects of SEO-Onsite Optimization and Offsite Optimization

Did you know that storing 'tips' in a file for reference is becoming as obsolete as the T-Model Ford? Let me relate to you how things have evolved in this area...

Disclosure: The viewpoint described here is based on my experience over the last four years, and I do indeed follow the recommendation I have made at the end.

Over those four years I've been writing articles, blogging and designing web sites. Naturally I've needed to know the best way to do all these things.

As I'm sure you are aware, all the how-to information on the above subjects is available copiously on the Internet from a variety of expert authors. So what did I do? Just like you, I bookmarked the information or pasted it into a disk file for reference (more recently, I was pasting into online files). Now let's leave that aside for the moment.

Wanting to stay abreast of the concerned topics, I also subscribed to expert blog feeds on each of them.

******

NOW HERE'S THE KICKER: I found that every so often, each expert throws an up-to-date how-to list at you!

******

As a result of this interesting phenomenon, I have taken a silent oath never to save or bookmark key information on these subjects. At the same time I constantly refine my list of roughly 50 feeds to ensure that I am always seeing the freshest, most accurate and best-informed how-to lists.

For not-so-common subjects where there are no expert feeds, yes, I still bookmark, but that does not detract from the essence of my commentary here.

WHEN ALL IS SAID AND DONE:

Try it yourself. Rely only on feeds to keep abreast of techniques. Stop worrying about saving information in case you need it. I bet you'll have the same experience as I did!

What Is SEO? A Brief Introduction

Internet marketing is a must in today's world if you have a business. If you have a business you must have a website to be competitive, and if you have a website-you must be doing your fair share of internet marketing. Let's take a closer look at SEO vs. SEM:

Search Engine Marketing can apply to two aspects of internet marketing. The first aspect is internet marketing as a whole, can be referred to as search engine marketing-that is-finding the best way to reach your market dependent upon what they search for in the search engines-typically Google, MSN, and Yahoo. Secondly, search engine marketing refers to the highly manipulated aspect of marketing through the search engines. Examples of what is SEM can be everything from "sponsored listings" on search engine results pages to pay per click campaigns (where advertisers bid on how much they will pay per customer click through to their sites for a good location in the search results of a particular keyword). The upside to SEM is that it can give positive results almost instantaneously, while the downside remains that you have to-in most cases-pay dearly for this.

Search Engine Optimization, on the other hand, is the more natural means of marketing through the search engines. Instead of blatantly manipulating the search engines to a get a good rank, purveyors of SEO use different tactics to optimize their websites and their relationship to the internet world in order to be ranked better in search results. Good examples of this include: keyword implementation, article submission, blog writing, link building, etc. The upside to SEO is that it requires much less of an investment and can be done without the search engines' knowledge-thus saving the site from being banned.
