How to Promote Your Business With the Best SEO Services
We hear a lot about Search Engine Optimization or SEO these days. Most people not directly connected with the Internet, especially on the online marketing solutions side, have only a vague idea of what SEO is.
Search Engine Optimization is an important marketing strategy by which the visitors on the Internet are directed to a particular website to buy products or services.
Search Engines like Google, Yahoo!, Ask Jeeves etc play important roles in helping a website to direct buyers to its site. The major search engines use a variety of information to index and rank web pages so they appear when keywords or keyword phrases are searched.
Search Engine Optimization is not an easy task. It is the culmination of several distinct and different steps like link building, building link popularity, improving web page ranking and using well written content etc in a website.
Several key factors dictate the success of SEO. They are Content, Link Popularity, URL structures, Meta Tags etc.
Content is very important. Well-written, eminently readable content goes a long way in increasing your web page popularity. Content determines the relevancy of a page and the right key words used in the content brings up the webpage among the top 10 ,during a search. The general theory is that the more valuable content is to your users, the more valuable the content will be to your search engines. The key to writing good content is to concentrate on including the right key words and phrases. The Content should read as natural, hence do not cram the content with key words and phrases. Do not copy or duplicate content.
Link popularity is very essential for effective SEO. Use hyperlinks in the content judiciously. Link Exchange, Bookmarking of web pages etc are good strategies to improve your web page ranking and thereby build SEO.
URL Structures are significant. A page's URL is critical for search engine optimization. Include keywords in your URL strings, and place the most important keywords at the beginning of the URL.
Meta Tags are a must. One should provide page titles, meta descriptions and meta keywords for each web page and consistently use your keywords effectively. The page title is to be placed at the top of the web page. If the page is indexed, the page title will appear first for your listing in the search engine's search results. The meta description should consist of 20-30 words that describes what the page is about, and is presented below the page title in search engines' search results. This helps search engines know what keywords to associate with your page. Provide 3-5 keywords that are directly relevant to the page you are optimizing.
Images must be judiciously placed in the web page. Similarly every web page should not be too rich in content. This make the web page consume a lot of time to load, testing the patience of the visitor.
Search Engine Optimization is all about sensible webpage construction. If you have got the basics right, then SEO will come on automatically.
Search Engine Optimization - How To Get 1st Page Results
So you've built your website, you know what keywords you want to target (i.e. what words your customers are searching for), and you're ready to write your copy. You've been told that you should use your keywords frequently so that you appear in search results for those words. But what does "frequently" mean?
How many times should you use your primary keyword? This case study helps answer that question.
Some background on "Keyword Density"
In order to understand optimum keyword usage, we first need to have some way of measuring keyword frequency. In the Search Engine Optimization (SEO) world, frequency is actually referred to as density. Keyword density is a measure of the number of times your keyword appears on a page expressed as a percentage of the total wordcount of that page. For example, if your page has 100 words, and your keyword phrase appears 5 times, its density is 5%. So when you hear someone say "keyword density", that's normally what they're talking about. (TIP: You can automatically check the keyword density of your page at LiveKeywordAnalysis.com.)
However, there is another, more complex measure of keyword density which takes into account the text components in the HTML of the page (i.e. the meta tags: Title, Keywords, Alt Text, Description, and Comments). When using this measure, you don't just count the words your visitor sees; you also count the words in your meta tags. For example, if you have 100 words on your home page, 10 words in your Title tag, 20 words in your Description tag, 70 words in your Alt tags, and 10 words in your Comments tag, your total wordcount for the page is 100 + 10 + 20 + 70 + 10 = 210. Similarly, when counting keywords, you don't just add up the number of times a visitor will see your keyword, you also count the number of times that keyword appears in your meta tags. For example, if your keyword appears 5 times in the home page copy, 3 times in the Title tag, 5 times in the Description tag, 30 times in your Alt tags, and twice in your Comments tag, your total keyword count is 5 + 3 + 5 + 30 + 2 = 45. So with a total wordcount of 210 and a keyword count of 45, your keyword density is 45/210 x 100 = 21%. It is argued that this measure of keyword density is more relevant as the search engines measure density in this fashion. (TIP: You can automatically check the keyword density of your page using this more complex measure at GoRank.com.)
As you can see, you need to be very aware of which measure you're talking about when you're talking "keyword density". But let me reiterate; mostly when people talk about keyword density, they're talking the simple measure.
What is the optimum keyword density
And now down to business... What keyword density (of either kind) should you be targeting on your website?
There's a lot of debate surrounding this issue because the search engine companies don't disclose the details of their algorithms (as that would allow people to abuse the system). Instead, people working in the SEO world are left to figure it out based on their experience.
A recent article by respected SEO and Blog expert, Wayne Hurlbert, (see Keyword Density: SEO Considerations) suggests that Google sees pages with a keyword density of greater than 2% as spam. It was this article which prompted me to analyze the keyword density of my copywriting website.
The Website: This case study analyzes the website for my advertising copywriting and SEO copywriting business, Divine Write - http://www.divinewrite.com. For my primary keyword, my site is now on page 1 of Google.com (out of approximately 900,000 search results).
Number of pages on site: At the time of writing, my website contained a total of 53 pages.
Primary keyword phrase: "copywriter"
Average keyword density: Using the simple measure of keyword density discussed above, the average keyword density of my copywriting website is 1.9%. Using the complex measure it's 4.9%.
Keyword density range: Using the simple measure, my density ranged from 0.4% to 7.6%. Using the complex measure it ranged from 1.6% to 17.5%
Some comments on the figures
o The figures and corresponding ranking detailed in this case study may not be directly relevant to every site. There's a lot I don't know about the algorithms and there are bound to be other factors at play which I don't know about.
o With regard to Wayne Hurlbert's article, it would seem that he is referring to keyword density as calculated using the simple method discussed above.
o The range figures are noteworthy because they suggest that you don't need to be paranoid about having some pages with a very high density and some with a very low density.
A simple keyword density of 1.9% can be enough for a first page ranking in Google.com (assuming you have enough quality backlinks - see http://www.divinewrite.com/SEOCEO.htm and http://www.divinewrite.com/seoarticles.htm for more information).
Happy SEO writing!
Is SEO A Wide Investment?
Many different search engine optimization firms offer services that can be tailored to the specific needs of your industry or company. Sometimes, though, an SEO company only focuses on certain services and limits the amount of success they can really have online. When you start looking for web marketing services, be sure that you find a company that understands and uses a full range of SEO techniques.
Some optimization services are very basic, and should be expected of any company. These include keyword research operations to find the most lucrative and attainable keywords. Some companies focus on the general, highly-searched keywords, but they are missing out on the long-tail keywords that likely convert better.
Social media, an aspect of online marketing that has grown significantly in the last few years, is a service that many companies are including. Technically, it is not actually an SEO technique, but it is a valuable method for reaching out to new customers or communicating with your consumer base.
Most marketing techniques should be focused on methods to build search engine rankings. There are a lot of options available to optimizers, and many of them are all about building links. Some of the easier tactics to do this involve directory submissions or article marketing. These are important, but part of your services should include a wide range of links.
Search engine optimization firms should be adaptable and have access to many different ways to gather links. Directories and articles are a good start, but there are other ways to get more valuable links. Some companies guest post on blogs, others request links from important websites, and others focus on creating link bait on the actual website.
How can you know whether or not your search optimization firm can deliver on their claims? How do you know the SEO services are really what you need to build rankings? The best thing to do is ask your firm some questions before you get started.
The first question to ask is for some examples of previous work or other success stories. Then, ask the company if they have any experience dealing with similar companies in your industry and whether they have had any particular success there. Another important question is how long they have been working. This will show how quickly they are able to adapt to the changes in the SEO industry.
If you start looking into search engine optimization services early, you will have a much better chance to climb the search engines and position your website where customers will be able to find you.
